With the European heat wave surrounding Belgium, the country’s railway operator is installing additional trains at the seaside hotspots and crowds are expected to reach the coast to cool off.
Railway chiefs announced the measure to avoid chaotic scenes during previous periods of heat when some passengers were forced to wait hours to board a train to the main coastal destinations of Knokke and Ostend.
The Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium has predicted maximum temperatures in Brussels around 37ºC.
Netherlands and Luxembourg
The Netherlands is preparing for temperatures to reach 40 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country next week, as a heat wave hits the coasts of Europe.
His meteorological institute has urged people to prepare for yellow code warnings, especially in the south of the country. Experts are asking people to stay indoors and protect themselves from extreme heat outside.
The traditional Vierdaagse event, known as the four-day march, which sees some 50,000 people walking up to 220 kilometers, will begin on Tuesday, amid the heat wave. Organizers are already making special arrangements for extreme heat.
In Luxembourg, older people and young children are urged not to spend too much time outdoors, avoid physical activity and stay hydrated.
Meteolux, its weather warning service, has said temperatures of up to 32ºC are expected in much of the country in the coming days.
