Wests Tigers fired Michael Maguire coach Brett Kimmorley as interim replacement

The Wests Tigers have sacked coach Michael Maguire.

The club issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon confirming the news.

“The Wests Tigers are sincerely grateful to Michael for all his hard work and effort over the last three and a half years,” the club said.

“For the rest of the season, Brett Kimmorley will take over as interim coach.”

Maguire is the second NRL coach to leave his club on Tuesday, after Nathan Brown was sacked by the Warriors just hours earlier.

The Tigers board conducted a mid-season review last week where it was decided that Maguire should not continue working.

He trained on Tuesday morning, but is reported to have informed his players of his departure on Tuesday afternoon.

After 13 rounds, the Tigers are ranked 13th on the NRL ladder with three wins to their name.

Maguire took over from Ivan Cleary four years ago, but the team has fallen back on the ladder every season since.

The Tigers have not participated in the final since 2011.

Maguire is the third coach to lose his job this season. Trent Barrett left the Bulldogs last month.
