Two men have been killed and three others injured after a nightly shooting inside an Oshawa bar.

The incident happened around 12:45 inside The BLVD Restaurant and Bar in a small square in Simcoe St. N. and Niagara Dr.

“One man was pronounced dead at a local hospital. A second man was transported to a Toronto critical care hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” the Insp said. Craig McCabe with Durham Regional Police. “Three more men were taken to local hospitals. Since then they have been treated and released on life-threatening conditions.”

Police are looking for who was behind the shooting.

As of late Saturday afternoon, they had not posted any suspicious descriptions.

Homicide detectives investigated the area to find evidence, videos or witnesses.

“Right now we expect people to call and provide any video from the command camera, or any witness, anyone at the bar last night,” insp. said McCabe. “If they can call and talk to our homicide office and let them know what you saw.”

The plaza was closed Saturday with a yellow police tape, including a gas station a few feet away.

“This bar, as soon as it reopened after the pandemic, the police are here every Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” Bashriran said.

While waiting to retrieve his car trapped behind the police perimeter around the gas station car park, Bashriran also said there was a shooting last winter at the same location.

According to a report, there was a shooting in the parking lot of the restaurant in November 2021. At that time, Durham police said two groups of people were fighting and a man was shot and injured. they did not endanger his life.

Owners of a neighboring Indian restaurant that opened just three weeks ago said they closed Saturday at 10:30 p.m., ahead of the shooting incident.

“This morning I got a call from my friend that there was a shooting in the square,” said Maitray Patel, owner of Chaalo Oshawa, next to The BLVD.

His business partner, Yesh Patel, confirmed what other locals said about a previous incident.

“It also happened a couple of months before. But no one died at that time,” he said.

They described the area as mostly populated by students attending nearby Durham College.

“Every Friday, Saturday, this place is usually pretty busy with students,” said Bryce Higham, who lives across the street from the plaza.

He said he heard no shots.

“At that time I was asleep because I usually get up at five in the morning,” he said.

On Saturday afternoon the investigators continued to take pictures in the square.

“I can’t say if it’s targeted or not,” Insp said. McCabe. “We are still reviewing what we have from inside the bar. It was contained within the establishment. So I can’t say if it’s targeted or not. “
