Meta WhatsApp’s proprietary messaging platform has announced a feature that will allow users to seamlessly transfer chats from Android to iOS devices.
Meta Platforms co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to Facebook to share the development. Zuckerberg said the company was adding the ability to securely switch between phones and transfer, chat, history, pictures, videos and voice notes between Android and iOS devices while maintaining end-to-end encryption.
“We’ve added to WhatsApp the ability to securely switch between phones and transfer your chat history, photos, videos, and voice messages between Android and iPhone, keeping end-to-end encryption. WhatsApp introduced iOS to Android chat transfer in 2021. With the latest feature, users can now switch from Android to iOS with ease. For the new feature to work, Android phones should run version 5 or later and the iPhone should have iOS version 15.5.
Follow the steps below to transfer chats from Android to iPhone:

- Keep your iPhone and Android connected to the same WiFi network. The device must remain in charging mode during data transfer
- Reset iPhone; go to Settings and select Move to iOS app. Install the Move to iOS app on your Android device, and follow the steps
- Enter the code shown on the iPhone in the Android app. Make sure you select WhatsApp on the data transfer screen
- Select the Home button on your Android device, and wait for the data to transfer to your iPhone. In the meantime, your WhatsApp account will be closed on your Android device
- To return to the Move to iOS app, click Next, as this will allow users to transfer data from Android to their iOS device. Users should wait until the whole process is complete
- Alternatively, launch your iPhone and install the latest version of WhatsApp Messenger on your device. Sign in to the app with the same number, tap Start, and wait for the data transfer
