When thunder and lightning storms will arrive on Sunday with the yellow weather warning

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for storms on Sunday 5 June covering Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset.

Meteorologists have said the storm is likely to arrive from midnight on Saturday and last until 6pm on Sunday. Experts warned: “Storms in parts of England and Wales from early Sunday can cause travel disruptions and, in some places, floods.”

“Some places could see between 15 and 20 mm in an hour, and maybe up to 50 mm before the storms go away, and hail may affect some points,” the Met Office reports.

Meteorologists have warned that flooding could be “life-threatening” and could see some communities cut off. They said, “Water may flow quickly or flood deeply, causing life-threatening damage and some communities could be cut off if roads are flooded.”

They also said there are likely to be some power outages, public transport cancellations and lightning strikes.

Forecasters said:

  • Home and business flooding can occur quickly, with damage to some buildings from flooding, lightning, hail, or strong winds.
  • When there are floods or lightning, there are chances of delays and some cancellations of train and bus services.
  • Sudden showers and flooding can lead to difficult driving conditions and some roadblocks.
  • Power outages and other services could be lost to some homes and businesses
