Two Winnipeg restaurants have been named as some of the best in the country.
This week, the list of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants was released after a two-year hiatus, with Maque and Winnipeg’s Close Company making the cut.
The list named Maque, located on Dorchester Avenue, as the 74th best restaurant in Canada, with Close Company, located on Stafford Street, ranking 83rd.
The ranking of the restaurants was revealed at an event in Toronto on Monday night, with the Vancouver Published on Main restaurant taking first place.
The list has been created by 100 industry experts and published by food writer Jacob Richler.
In the past, judges voted based on full dining experience, including service, decoration, and food quality. However, this year the judges were asked to simply vote for a good meal.
Judges were even allowed to evaluate restaurants based on takeaway food. This was done to equalize the playing field, as some cities were in the middle of a blockade due to the pandemic while others were open.
This year’s contest also hosted a dozen new judges, who were selected from respondents in a 2020 contest.
