The WHO said on Tuesday it would hold an emergency meeting on June 23 to determine whether to classify the global outbreak of smallpox as a public health emergency of international interest.

“The outbreak of smallpox is unusual and worrying. For this reason I have decided to convene the Emergency Committee in accordance with international health regulations next week, to assess whether this outbreak represents a public health emergency of international concern. said Tedros Adhanom, head of the World Health Organization.
