Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith have been spotted together for the first time since Will slapped Chris Rock for a joke at Jada’s expense during the 2022 Oscars in March.
The couple, who appeared to be in good spirits, were caught by photographers on Saturday in Malibu, near celebrity hotspot Nobu, walking hand-in-hand as Will waved to onlookers, reports the New York Post.
The Oscar winner wore a black hat, navy polo and matching trousers for the outing, completing the look with crisp white Air Force Ones. Jada also wore sneakers with her black ensemble, tying a flannel shirt around her waist and finishing off her look with dainty jewelry and a pair of shades.
The remark comes weeks after Will posted his latest apology for slapping Rock during the ceremony over a GI Jane jokes the comedian explained in reference to Jada, who suffers from alopecia areata.
“I reached out to Chris and the message he got back is that he’s not ready to talk, but when he is, he’ll be in touch,” Smith said in the video posted on YouTube.
“I’ll tell you, Chris, I apologize. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
Jada addressed the moment during a June episode of her Facebook Watch series Red Table Talksaying that he would like, “these two intelligent and capable men to have a chance to heal, talk about it and reconcile.
“The state of the world today, we need them both,” he continued. “And we all need each other more than ever. Until then, Will and I keep doing what we’ve done for the past 28 years, and that’s keep discovering this thing called life together. Thanks for listening.”
As for rock, the stand-up has only addressed the matter on stage during recent concerts, including comparing Smith to former Death Row Records executive and standout Suge Knight.
“Everybody’s trying to be a victim,” Rock, 57, said during a concert at the Fox Theater in Atlanta.
“If everybody says they’re a victim, nobody’s going to listen to the real victims. I even got spanked by Suge Smith…I went to work the next day, I had kids.”
He added: “Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.”
