Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are trying to reach the quarterfinals of Wimbledon for the first time, which would match their best Grand Slam results, but by reaching the round of 16 they have already recorded their best performances in SW19.
They have faced each other twice before at the Challenger or Tour level, with Alcaraz winning on both occasions, but they are unlikely to fall today, whatever the outcome.
“Well, obviously everyone knows Jannik’s level,” Alcaraz said after beating Oscar Otte on Friday. “He’s a great player. He plays really well here on the pitch too. He plays really well, very aggressively.
“We are friends off the court, so I would say on the pitch we will have a great rivalry in so many years.”
