“Today’s media headline that says Mr Kyrgios has been‘ accused ’is inaccurate,” says a statement from Johanessen Legal.
“Currently, the allegations are not considered as facts by the Court, and Mr Kyrgios is not considered charged with a crime until the first appearance.
“Until the Court formally accepts that the Prosecution will proceed with a charge, and that the charge before the Court will be applied to the person summoned to appear, it may be misleading for the public to describe the Summons otherwise than a formal order to appear before complaints, the precise nature of which is not certain at this time or confirmed by either the Prosecution or Kyrgios.
“While Mr. Kyrgios is committed to addressing all allegations once clear, taking the matter seriously does not guarantee any misreading of the process that Mr. Kyrgios must follow.”
