Wisconsin Sheriff: Five Stabbed to Death in Apple River, Minn

A 17-year-old Minnesota boy was killed and four others were injured Saturday in a knife attack in Apple River in western Wisconsin. A 52-year-old Minnesota man was arrested, the St. Louis County Sheriff said. Croix, Scott Knudson.

“Thank God a witness had taken a picture of it,” Knudson said. “Another witness located him at the exit of the tube area, where he was arrested.”

The victims and the suspect were walking down the river about 3:45 p.m., he said. The attack took place near the town of Somerset, near the Minnesota border north and east of Stillwater. The Apple River has long been a popular summer recreation destination for Twin Cities residents.

“We still don’t know who was connected to who, who knew each other or what precipitated it,” Knudson said. “It’s a tragic day.”

Two victims were taken to a hospital and two by ambulance. All were in critical condition.

His and the suspect’s names were not immediately released.
