Police are warning residents after a wolf escaped from their enclosure near Port Colborne.
The female arctic white wolf was rescued from an area in northern Ontario, police say, and was dug out of her enclosure Tuesday morning.
Investigators say they have received numerous sightings near Main Street West and Cement Road and are trying to track the animal.
They urge the public not to go looking for the wolf.
“Forcing an interaction could result in a negative outcome for the human and the wolf,” the Niagara Police Service said in a news release issued Wednesday. “Pressing the wolf could also make it run, making it harder to catch.”
“The public in the area is being advised to be aware of their personal safety and that of their pets.”
