Wroxham Barns closes due to fire at Hoveton field

A large fire broke out in a field in Hoveton.

The fire broke out just off Tunstead Road in the north of the village.

Fire crews from Wroxham, Sprowston, Stalham, Wymondham and Fakenham were called to the scene at 1.33pm this afternoon, July 24.

Crews remained at the scene throughout the afternoon and a stand down message was received at 4:16 p.m.

They used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

Wroxham Barns, a visitor attraction on Tunstead Road, has posted on its social media to say it is closing the site for the safety of staff, customers and animals.

Greater Anglia has also tweeted to say it has suspended services between Hoveton and North Walsham due to a fire in the area.

Witnesses said they could see a plume of black smoke rising into the air.

One said that two fields were on fire, one that has been harvested and one that is still full of crops.
