What type of wrestling player are you?
Some like to sit on the couch with friends and laugh their way through the big shots in ladder matches/Hell In A Cell/backstage brawls. Others enjoy destroying the MyCareer mode after creating their own WWE hopeful. Then there are those who barely play a game – they’re far more concerned with contributing to the Community Creations tab.
Gratifying all these masters has been a challenge for 2K Games, but somehow they managed to put a lot of smiles on faces with WWE 2K22. That game reinvigorated a series that, frankly, looked like it was on the brink of collapse, and the future looks bright.
Their next challenge will be to improve things in time for the release of 2K23 early next year. However, there is not nearly a two-year gap to get things right this time. No, 2K23 is coming just 12 months after its predecessor, and that means the pressure is on for these developers.
Fortunately, they can view this article as a handy starter guide to all the most anticipated changes players want to see from a franchise that just came out in 2.9…
First up: the WWE locker room.
Change a lot, and that must make it hard for 2K to keep up with things. The bad news? They will have to find a way, because what happened in 2K22 was not acceptable. The game had too many workers on the disc that weren’t even with the company anymore.
Braun Strowman, Keith Lee, Lana, Toni Storm – the list goes on and on. At times, it almost felt like 2K was delivering “WWE X AEW: The Video Game” here. It was really out of control. Few are complaining now, because having more wrestlers to play with isn’t a bad thing, but it didn’t reflect real life WWE at all.
This is a little annoying, and it’s something most would like to see changed in the next game. Obviously, making character models takes time, but the 2K developers have to find some way to ensure that 2K23 is as up-to-date as possible.
