Discord’s useful but somewhat infamous voice chat will soon arrive on your Xbox Series X / S and Xbox One consoles, but some Xbox Insider participants will be able to access the new feature today. According to an official Xbox blog post, the integration will allow players to “chat with anyone on Discord via voice channels or group calls directly from your console, making it easy to connect with friends via mobile, Xbox and PC “.
“As you play on your console, you’ll be able to see who’s on the call and talking,” wrote Eric Voreis of Xbox. “You can also adjust the sound and switch between Discord Voice and Xbox game chat.”
Good to know: Discord’s voice chat is notoriously loaded with verbal abuse, so I’d like to make sure it’s turned on at full volume so I can hear strangers call me “evil bitch” while I play Minecraft. More benevolently, the Discord update will be a useful way to integrate your existing groups of friends into your Xbox sessions. If you spend a lot of time on Xbox, you will no longer have to manipulate a way to play with your Discord friends by chatting with you. The console will take care of the logistics for you.
Anxious voice speakers should know that there are still a few weeks left unspecified before the Discord update hits their console. But when it finally lands, as long as it is, it will be easy to get it up and running.
To access Discord, press the Xbox button, then search for “Parties and Chats” and then “Discord Voice on Xbox.” From here, scan the available QR code, link your Discord account to Xbox (even if you’ve linked the two before) and join a voice chat channel normally. Your Discord mobile app will also get a “Join Xbox” button, but you’ll need the Xbox app if you want the voice chat you have on your phone to pass to your Xbox.
