Isiah Kiner-Falefa guided Jameson Taillon through the 20th beat of his perfect game and no-hits bid.
He couldn’t do the same with the 22nd hitter.
After making a perfect play for seven innings, Jared Walsh led the eighth inning with what was declared a double. He hit hard in the middle, and Kiner-Falefa, who was moved to the right of second base, could not do the reverse. The ball hit his glove and rolled into the center field, allowing Walsh to advance to the second.

In the previous entry, Taillon saw Shohei Ohtani break a line above his head. The Yankees’ shortstop, however, shifted to the right side of second base, as if for Walsh’s hit, and he was able to catch it with a jump and throw an unbalanced shot and a jump to the first base with all its momentum. leading it to the left field to remove the current MVP.
After Walsh’s double, Taillon withdrew the next two batters before a Kurt Suzuki single in the Angels’ first run and put them ahead 1-0.
After starting the inning with a perfect play, Taillon finished the eighth inning with a hook for a possible loss. But Anthony Rizzo not only saved him from the L, but handed Taillon the win with a two-run single RBI that won the game in the eighth inning with loaded bases. Clay Holmes picked up the stop after an adventurous ninth inning in the 2-1 win.
