Astros left fielder Yordan Alvarez was sent off in the eighth inning of Houston’s game against the Mets on Wednesday at Citi Field after colliding with shortstop Jeremy Peña with a Dominic Smith ball into the shallow left field.
Peña, who caught the ball flying for the first exit of the entrance, seemed to hit Alvarez in the face with his arm while the left fielder sprinted to try to make a play with the ball. Both players fell to the ground, where Alvarez remained for a few moments while being cared for by coach Dusty Baker and the Astros’ coaching staff. He finally got up, but asked for the medical cart to get Alvarez off the field. Peña also left the game after the clash, coming out on his own.
Alvarez is in full swing dominating the plate, batting .316 / .412 / .658 with 23 homers and 56 RBIs.
