You’ve probably never thought about watching videos on the small screen of your Apple Watch. Apart from the occasional text movie, there is no browser and Google has not sent any official YouTube app (although it does offer YouTube music for Apple Watch).
We won’t say it’s a good idea, but this issue has been resolved. A new third-party app called WatchTube has arrived with a mission: to allow you to watch YouTube videos on Apple’s smartwatch.
The application is quite simple, which makes sense given the limitations of the screen you will use to navigate the interface. There are four panels that can be swiped: an algorithmic home page, a search page, a personal library, and a configuration. It won’t take long to understand things. You can also view comments and activate captions.

Although the concept is simple, however, we found the application a bit awkward to use. Entering searches is tricky on the small keyboard, and it’s not always clear whether you need to tap a second button to trigger certain actions: tap one of the suggested searches, for example, or press play a video you might expect. having started playing when you opened it. Videos and search queries have often uploaded or returned errors, although there is no apparent connection issue.
These are the first days for the application, which at the time of writing is still in version 1.1.1, and some or all of these issues may be resolved in the future. The most recent June 15 update fixed several bugs and issues.
But most of all it works. You can find a video and watch it on the 2-inch clock screen. Because the Apple Watch is square, the videos will look even smaller, as the format will add black bars, so it doesn’t feel as immersive as it does on your iPhone. Sure, it’s a great idea, but it probably won’t become an essential part of the Apple Watch app library.
