Yvette Cooper’s son among Warwick student protesters chanting “transphobic” Nadhim Zahawi

One of the student protesters who chanted “conservative slag” and “Zahawi is a transphobic” in the education secretariat is the son of Labor politicians Yvette Cooper and Ed Balls.

Joel Cooper was among a group of protesters who played loud music, sang and accused Nadhim Zahawi of inciting hatred through his comments on transgender rights during a questioning session at the University of Warwick. Zahawi had to be escorted off campus.

The Warwick Conservative Association had invited the Stratford-on-Avon MP to the campus to speak with students on Friday.

Members of groups such as Warwick Pride, which represents LGBT students, had tried to enter the event, and some who had tickets said they had been turned down.
