There is an exit at Southampton, who have sold Oriol Romeu to Girona in La Liga. The Catalan started his career at Barcelona and returns to Spain after eleven years in England, after going to Chelsea in 2011.
Jamie Jackson has much more on Antony’s arrival at Manchester United.
Manchester City sign Akanji from Borussia Dortmund
Manuel Akanji is a Manchester City player. The defender joins from Borussia Dortmund for £16.7m and has signed a contract until 2027. The move came out of the blue a couple of days ago and means City now have five senior centre-backs, with John Stones, Rúben Dias and Aymeric. Laporte and Nathan Aké are already on the books.
“It was a bit unexpected at the last stage of the transfer market, but I had no doubts about the move,” Akanji said. “I’m here to prove myself. I want to show everyone that they were right to choose me.”
They have already signed a player from Borussia Dortmund this summer, so this could work quite well for City.
City scoffed at the deal a few minutes ago.

Liverpool are trying to sign Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo on a season-long loan from Juventus. The 26-year-old, who swapped Barcelona for Turin as part of the Miralem Pjanic deal in 2020, has been made available by the Italian club and has received an offer from Liverpool. The deal would be a loan with no obligation to buy, leaving the way clear for Jurgen Klopp to move long-time target Jude Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund next summer.
Klopp was happy with his midfield options earlier in the summer, but a string of injuries has led to a change of heart. Their latest problem is captain Jordan Henderson, who picked up a hamstring injury against Newcastle last night and is expected to miss Saturday’s Merseyside derby. Henderson will undergo a scan in the next 24 hours with doubts over his availability to face Chelsea on September 18.

Which summer signing are you most excited about?
Fill the boots with rumours.
In unsurprising news, Antony is more than happy to join Manchester United on a deal until 2027. I spoke to one Eredivisie full-back who said the Brazilian is the best he has faced in the league Now he just needs to prove it in England.
“This is an incredible moment in my career to join one of the most iconic clubs in the world,” said Antony. “I’m grateful to everyone who believed in me, especially my family, all my coaches and teammates, because without them I wouldn’t have been able to get this far.
“Playing with Erik ten Hag at Ajax was perfect for me and my development. His style of football and coaching brings out the best in me, and I’m excited by what he has told me about his plans and ambitions in Manchester.
“My time at Ajax was fantastic and I will always be grateful for the trust they placed in me, but now I am ready for the next challenge and I can’t wait to join my new team-mates and play my part in bringing me success at Manchester United.”

Some early bad news for Brentford, courtesy of Nick Ames, who knows his Ukrainian football.
I understand Brentford’s latest approach for Mykhaylo Mudryk has been rebuffed and the player is looking increasingly likely to stay at Shakhtar for at least the next few months. Leicester has joined the horde surveillance situation. It remains to be seen if the bees have one last turn…
