Quantic Dream becomes NetEase’s “first studio in Europe”.
China’s NetEase Games has acquired Detroit Beyond Human’s Quantic Dream, calling the studio the first in Europe.
“Quantic Dream, led by David Cage and Guillaume de Fondaumière, will become NetEase Games’ first studio in Europe, representing an important step towards fulfilling NetEase’s vision of supporting game innovation and development across the world,” the company said in a statement.
“Quantic Dream will continue to operate independently, focusing on creating and publishing its video games across all platforms, as well as supporting and publishing titles developed by third parties, while leveraging NetEase’s significant game development capabilities.”
It’s unclear what NetEase paid to acquire the studio, one that also works on Star Wars Eclipse.
“Today marks an important milestone for our studio after a quarter of a century of full independence,” said Quantic Dream’s David Cage. “NetEase Games values our creative freedom and the drive and passion of our unique team. Now we will be able to accelerate the vision we share as a group, to create iconic titles that touch people on an emotional level.
“We have very distinct games in the pipeline and I truly believe the best is yet to come from Quantic Dream,” Cage continued. “I am especially proud that our employees, who have been offered a significant portion of our equity over the past few years, will fully benefit from this acquisition. It is a testament to our continued commitment to rewarding all those who have made Quantic Dream the successful studio it is today.”
