Detectives baffled after finding the sisters’ rotting bodies in Sydney’s apartment

Homicide detectives have been baffled by the discovery of two decomposed bodies in an apartment in south-west Sydney.

Key points:

  • Police said there were no signs of injuries to the bodies
  • However, the deaths are being treated as suspects
  • An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow to determine the next steps in the investigation

The 23- and 24-year-old sisters are believed to have been foreigners and were found dead in separate rooms in their Canterbury home.

Its owner had not charged rent for “a few weeks”, which led to a visit by the authorities, which led to an investigation with few clues.

With no visible signs of an attack on the property or injuries to the bodies, the mystery surrounds the circumstances that led to his death.

Forensic police have cleaned the apartment from fingerprints, while detectives confiscated bags of possible evidence and cameras from the front of the building.

Investigators knocked on residents’ doors and spoke to the building’s postman following reports of an accumulation of packages and letters outside the mailboxes.

Neighbor Kim Bui said she was shocked and saddened by the tragedy.

“I’m scared, I’m worried, I’m just trying to protect my kids because I don’t know what happened,” she said.

“Yesterday I saw police cars outside. I asked the gentleman and he told me there were two girls on the first level and they died, and I really don’t know what happened, but it’s very scary.”

Detective Inspector Claudia Allcroft said officers would rely on the results of an autopsy to determine the next course of action.

“An autopsy will be done tomorrow and we hope to have more information once it is completed,” he said.

“At this stage there are no obvious signs of injury; we are still in the early stages of the investigation.”

Detective Inspector Allcroft said the deaths were being treated as suspects.

“It’s a very tragic scene, very sad circumstances,” he said.

“We are investigating all lines of investigation: if anyone has information about these sisters or anything suspicious in the area, we urge you to contact the police or crime officers.”
