“It won’t be a success”: Kimmorley’s possible date with the Tigers described as “unfair”

NRL360 co-host Paul Kent has criticized suggestions that Brett Kimmorley could be named full-time coach of the Tigers amid reports that he is the leader for the position.

Panthers assistant Cameron Ciraldo turned down the role after the club submitted a lucrative offer and now interim coach Kimmorley has established himself as the favorite to take over according to the SMH, ahead of John Morris, Shane Flanagan and Kristian Woolf.

Kent and Paul Crawley of The Daily Telegraph said Kimmorley’s possible long-term appointment “was unfair” to a rookie coach.

“This is nothing personal against Brett Kimmorley, but he doesn’t have the experience to take over this club,” Crawley told NRL360.

“A club that has gone through four coaches in a decade, you can’t put a guy who has received a couple of pinches as an assistant coach and not for a few years, you can’t put him in that position.”

“With due respect to Kimmorley, who I really like, I don’t think he’s done the job yet to take on a job as big as resurrecting the Tigers and, if he’s appointed a member, he should come down with forks and going out with the board stuck in the end, ”Kent said.

“These are years of coaching, the real good guys who take over have had a long apprenticeship, their apprenticeship doesn’t live up to what it should be,” Crawley said.

David Riccio of the Daily Telegraph believes, however, that one man could be the key factor in the club’s decision: Tim Sheens.

Sheens was hired as the club’s football general manager before the 2022 season and made it clear his intentions that he would not coach again.

Despite having a brilliant coaching record, Sheens was hired to oversee football operations and manage the club’s roster.

Riccio explained that he believes Sheens still has “an itch to scratch” and could help a rookie coach flourish at Concord.

“I’ll put it in a difference on why I think Kimmorley can be an opportunity, it’s whether Tim Sheens takes on a more practical role,” Riccio said.

“He wasn’t able to do that with Michael Maguire, because he was an experienced coach.”

“Sheensy doesn’t want to train but, Sheensy doesn’t want to train,” Kent said.

“I don’t agree with Kenty, I think I could work with someone as a‘ Noddy ’to have a more practical role than he did with Maguire,” Riccio said.

“Sheensy has stated that he is not here to coach the Tigers, that he did not coach again,” Kent said.

“If Kimmorley or another rookie with similar experience is named, Sheens will be asked to do too.

“Much more than he signed, he’s already much more responsible, I love the way they put Sheensy to work after the board and everyone sat down and said they don’t ask us now.

“I think the sticks have moved for the Tigers since Ciraldo’s situation, which makes that situation Kimmorley,” Riccio said.

Meanwhile, Crawley made his thoughts clear, stating “mark my words, it will not be a success,” but again Riccio had other thoughts, comparing the situation of the Tigers with that of the Dolphins who, according to reports, have offered to Kristian Woolf the opportunity to work. under Wayne Bennett.

“It’s unfair for Brett Kimmorley to throw him into this job,” Crawley said.

“They have to do the right thing with him, Tim Sheens is a great coach, but again, he has a two-year contract and was not hired to be the coach.

“He’s the general manager of football.”

“We’re asking Wayne Bennett to do something similar with Kristian Woolf,” Riccio said.

“Wayne does it differently, Sheens made it clear he hasn’t been a coach again, when he has a rookie like Kimmorley or any other rookie there,” Kent said.

“I think there’s still itching to scratch, I don’t say coach in any, I say work with another, in a more practical role he couldn’t do with Maguire,” Riccio said.
