A three-year-old boy from Melbourne has died after a terrible collision.

A three-year-old boy has died tragically after being hit by a car near a daycare center.

At around 6.30pm on Thursday evening, police were called to McIntyre Road in Sunshine North, west Melbourne, for reports that a child had been hit by a car.

The boy appeared to have run off the road where he was hit by a red sedan, which did not stop, according to Victorian police.

Police are asking the driver of the sedan to approach him after the death of a 3-year-old boy

He was rushed to Royal Children’s Hospital with life-threatening head injuries, but died of a heart attack overnight.

Police said the boy had been picked up by his mother at the nursery just moments before he was run over.

Detective Sergeant Leigh Miller said the boy’s mother is understandably dismayed.

He went on to say that the collision was witnessed by several people, who are assisting the police in their investigations.

Sergeant Miller added that they were not sure the driver of the sedan was aware of the collision, but urged them to move forward when they learned of the boy’s death.
