A 41-year-old man accused of first-degree murder in Whitby

A 41-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after stabbing another man at a Whitby residence on Wednesday afternoon.

Police have previously described the incident on a Regatta Crescent property as “related to the home world,” but few details have been released about the exact circumstances.

In a new statement issued Thursday, police said a 44-year-old man was found at the scene with life-threatening injuries following the initial call for stabbing. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.

Authorities say the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, but was later located in a caravan park in Kirkfield with the assistance of Ontario provincial police.

“The suspect was arrested without incident,” the statement said.

The suspect has been identified as Whitby’s Zachary Gibson.
