A large fire breaks out at Seaford Head Golf Course

A HUGE fire has broken out at a golf course.

The blaze broke out this afternoon at Seaford Head Golf Course in bushland near Chyngton Road.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) estimates the fire to be 100 meters by 200 metres, almost five acres.

Crews are currently on the scene

Four ESFRS fire engines and two land rovers are present at the golf course.

An ESFRS spokeswoman said: “We were called at 3.37pm, we have four fire engines and two Land Rovers at the scene.

“The fire affects an area of ​​about 100 meters by 200 meters.

People are being warned to avoid the area

“There is smoke in the area and residents are asked to keep doors and windows closed.

“Please do not attend the scene.

“There are no reports of injuries.”

Another update from ESFRS confirmed it was still there damping down and checking hot spots. Firefighters were likely to be there until the evening.

“We’re still out there cushioning and checking for hot spots. We’re likely to be there a little while longer.”

Video from the scene shows one of the fire engines driving around the golf course.

Chyngton Road is closed between Arundel Road and Sutton Avenue while emergency services attend.

People have reported smelling smoke as far away as Wilmington near Polegate.

Last week, July 29, another fire broke out near the golf course after the heat.
