Albanians and Labor still have a majority government seat

Labor still needs one more seat to form a majority government while the counting of votes continues to decide three constituencies. The seats of Macnamara and Deakin in Victoria, and Gilmore in New South Wales, could give Labor the magic number of 76 seats.

In Gilmore, only a few hundred votes separate Andrew Constance from the Liberals and Fiona Phillips, the party’s incumbent, from Labor.

In Macnamara, there is a fierce three-way race between Labor leader Josh Burns, Liberals Colleen Harkin and Greens’ Steph May-Hodgins.

In Deakin, outgoing Liberal Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar has a small advantage over Labor’s Matt Gregg.

In Brisbane, Greens candidate Stephen Bates claimed victory over Labor’s Madonna Jarrett in another tight contest yesterday.

Coalition MP Trevor Evans resigned last week, leaving the Greens and Labor to fight for preferences.

Albanese has said he can work and will work with the independents if Labor fails to get the majority.
