Singer Amy Grant is in stable condition at a Nashville hospital after an injury she suffered in a bicycle accident on Wednesday.
First responders later transported the artist to Vanderbilt Medical Center to treat her for cuts and abrasions, Grant’s rep Velvet Kelm confirmed to USA TODAY.
He was wearing a bicycle helmet, according to the report.
Grant spent the night Wednesday in the hospital. Kelm said the singer is in stable condition.
The bike accident comes two years after Grant underwent open-heart surgery to fix a birth defect.
On Sunday, Grant was named one of five 2022 Kennedy Center honorees.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would ever receive this prestigious Kennedy Center Honors,” Grant said in a statement. “I can’t wait to celebrate with my fellow honorees, friends and family. Thank you for widening the circle to include us all.”
The center plans to honor Grant in its 45th honoree class that also includes actor George Clooney, singer Gladys Knight, Pulitzer Prize-winning songwriter Tania León and rock band U2.
Kennedy Center President David M. Rubenstein praised Grant, saying in a statement that she “became the first artist to bring contemporary Christian music to the forefront of American culture, then thrived as well after moving into mainstream pop with hit after hit, and today she is revered as the “Queen of Christian Pop”.
