After losing millions of iPhone 14 OLED screen orders due to an unauthorized manufacturing change, the BOE is said to be presenting new samples to Apple.
It was first reported that BOE had production issues in February 2022, then it was revealed that it had almost stopped manufacturing. Finally, it was said that it was because Apple caught BOE by changing the design of the screen.
Specifically, the BOE was said to have “extended the width of the thin film transistor circuit” used in the panels for its iPhone 13 orders. It is unclear why this was done without the knowledge of Apple, but if it was found that the design had changed it seemed that BOE would lose millions of orders.
According to The Elec, however, this week Apple will begin evaluating the OLED samples of the BOE iPhone 14. Unspecified sources say BOE expects to get a decision from Apple in a month.
If Apple decides to continue with BOE, the manufacturer expects to begin mass production during the months of July and August. Elec says its panels are being considered for the base iPhone 14, not the Pro models.
Previously, The Elec has proven to have decent sources of information within Apple’s supply chain. However, his later history in specific conclusions is poorer.
