New Lingiari MP Marion Scrymgour asked how the government is delivering the Uluru Declaration from the heart, “and in particular advancing an Indigenous voice in parliament in the constitution”.

“History is calling us all,” Burney said, adding that a referendum would be held within the next three years.
“Despite inhabiting this land for more than 60,000 years, we have no place in the founding legal document. It’s a glaring omission.
“This is not a radical proposal. It is fair and practical. It’s about growing our nation together. It’s about unity. It’s about hope.
“I think Australians are ready to take the next step. I want to give credit to the shadow minister [Julian Leeser] and their goodwill and involvement in the discussions we have had.
“I am encouraged by the support in principle from all state and territory leaders, including Premier Perrottet of New South Wales and Premier Rockliff of Tasmania.
“I invite everyone in this place to join us on this journey. This is an issue that does not belong on either side of politics. This is about building a better future. Mr. President, history tells us he shouts. Australians believe in decency. And I say to those on the other side, get on the station, we want you on the train with us.”
