OTTAWA – The Department of National Defense says Cmdr. Dale St. Croix has been temporarily removed from his post as commander of HMCS Halifax and is under investigation.
In a statement released Thursday afternoon, the department says the investigation “does not address any sexual misconduct, harmful or inappropriate sexual behavior.”
The frigate began a six-month deployment in northern European waters on March 17 as part of Operation NATO Reassurance, a deterrent mission to Central and Eastern Europe.
The Navy says it is investigating several incidents that occurred aboard the ship during a port visit in Swinoujscie, Poland.
St. Croix took over HMCS Halifax in July 2021.
Cmdr. Paul Mountford is now the interim commander of the ship until he returns to port in mid-July, and St. Croix will hold other positions within the headquarters of the Atlantic Maritime Forces in Canada until the investigation is conducted.
