Cork Pier Incident: A Car with Two Children Inside “Dives Into the River” While Rescue Underway

The car sank at Kennedy Pier in Cork tonight and reportedly had two children inside as it sank into the water with a horrified witness saying one person was still trapped.

A car with three passengers inside, two of them children, sank in a river and witnesses were horrified as it sank.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the major incident at Kennedy Pier in Cork this evening.

Two of the three passengers are believed to have been children and the third, the driver, is still trapped underwater.

Divers are now believed to be searching for the driver and anyone else who was present in the car at the fateful moment when he fell into the water.

A major search and rescue operation is underway after a vehicle sank on the dock, involving Cork Guard officers, ambulances and firefighters.

Eyewitnesses to the horrific incident could only see the car crashing into the river, Cork Live reported.

They said two passengers, the children, were able to get out of the car as it sank further into the water and swam to a safe place. They have since been taken to hospital.

However, it is feared that another passenger, the driver, may have been trapped inside the car.

His condition is unknown, but the first news of the incident has begun to appear before 9 pm this evening.

Emergency services are assisting the two fleeing passengers and have launched a third-party search operation.

A video of the scene showed a helicopter hovering over it as emergency vehicles rushed to the side of the dock.

The incident is believed to have taken place before 9 p.m.

He has approached the Garda for comment.

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred at Cork Pier in recent years.

Both last year and the previous year there were similar incidents where it was found that a car had entered the water.
