The number of people with COVID-19 in an Ontario hospital is 671, as the number of admissions to the ICU related to the virus is close to 100.
Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Ontario have shown a general downward trend in recent weeks, although Saturday’s data is slightly higher than Friday’s 669.
At the same time, COVID-19-related ICU admissions have dropped to 107, a level not seen since August 3, 2021.
Of the hospitalized patients, 412 are fully vaccinated, 76 unvaccinated and 35 partially vaccinated. The vaccination status of the remaining patients was not disclosed.
The majority of hospitalizations are considered incidental in 59%, ie these patients were not admitted for COVID-19, but have since tested positive. The other 41% of patients were admitted to hospital due to their diagnosis of COVID-19.
In the ICU, 60 patients are fully vaccinated, 10 are not vaccinated and four are partially vaccinated. No other vaccination information was released.
Seventy-four percent of these patients are in the ICU because of COVID-19, while the remaining 26 percent tested positive after being admitted for a different reason.
Another 10 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, but the health ministry said all of these casualties had occurred in the last month.
The death toll from COVID-19 in Ontario is now 13,285.
The province processed 9,829 tests for COVID-19 overnight, resulting in a positivity rate of 7.9 percent, according to the Ministry of Health.
At least 901 laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus were confirmed by these tests, although the actual number of cases across the province is unknown due to limited access to PCR tests.
Ontario has seen 1,306,890 cases of COVID-19 during the pandemic, including 1,284,384 recoveries.
