Defeat of the Jays against the Tigers

Blue Jays 1 Tigers 3

One of those games. We had many of the hardest balls in the game and yet they found gloves.

The four most hit balls in the game:

  • Vlad: 110.3 MPH: ground.
  • Vlad: 108.3 MPH: single.
  • Good: 106.8 MPH: Alignment.
  • Good: 105.4 MPH: alignment.

Bichette had a day off:

We couldn’t get a ball to fall at the right time. The Jays had 9 hits, but all singles. There were balls hit on the court, but not outside the park. And we had four very affected liners to get out.

And Gabriel Moreno got his first MLB hit in the ninth inning. Man is not a slow receiver:

Gabriel Moreno Sprint 7th inning 29.7 ft / s (99th percentile) 4.34 Start in first (95th percentile)

Moreno also scored his first career, entering with a George Springer single. But Bo Bichette came close to scoring a 10-foot home run that tied the game, instead he had his momentum on the court to end the game.

Kevin Gausman did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy pitch. 6 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 win (1 helped by a Bo Bichette error), 3 balls and 4 strikeouts.

He gave up a career at first. A simple start by Victor Reyes. Reyes tried to steal second. The throw was there, the label was there, but the ball came out of Bo’s glove. Kind of a hard mistake, but a mistake. Harold Castro welcomed him home. If Bo could have endured this …

And a run in the fourth. Javier Baez walked (he is a hard man to walk, but today he has done 3 walks. One of those things that is hard to believe). A ground-out moved him to second, and a triple (by Eric Haase) scored.

The Tigers got their third run in the seventh. David Phelps conceded a Haase double and a Reyes single, before scoring a point. Tim Mayza made a great block, though. Tim’s first outing after leaving IL today has lasted all four launches.

Trevor Richards threw a fast ninth with a walk.

There is no Jays of the Day today.

At the other end we have Espinal (-.120, for a 0 for 4), Bo (-.102 for a 2 for 5, but that start in ninth was expensive. He was one of the two Jays with 2 hits, but also had this error). Moreno also had a -.100, but lost once stolen by mistake. He also had the first single of his career and looked good behind the plate. So I don’t give him the “prize” in his first MLB game.

Cavan Biggio on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Tomorrow we will try to win the series. Ross Stripling (2-1, 3.65) against Tarik Skubal (5-2, 2.33). Tarik, despite having a name that looks like something a Star Trek writer invented after a night of drinking, is the Tigers ’best starter this season.
