Aston Villa have reached an agreement with Sevilla for the transfer of defender Diego Carlos for an undisclosed fee.
Carlos will travel to England later Thursday to complete a medical examination and complete personal terms.
Sky Sports News understands the fee is £ 26 million for the defender, who won a gold medal with Brazil at the delayed Tokyo Olympics.
Carlos will become Villa’s second arrival of the summer after announcing the signing of midfielder Boubacar Kamara on Monday with a five-year contract before the expiration of his contract at Marseille in late June.
Villa is also understood to be in talks to sign defender James Tarkwoski, whose contract with Burnley expires in late June.
Villa is likely to face competition from other Premier League clubs for the 29-year-old center-back.
Newcastle’s failed bid by Carlos in January
Newcastle were about to sign Carlos in January, but were unable to agree a fee with the Spanish side.
A £ 30million fee was discussed between the clubs, but Sevilla increased the player’s value to £ 38m and Newcastle left.
Carlos told Sevilla he wanted to leave, but the Spanish club wanted to keep him at the time, as they were still looking for the LaLliga title.
Only a great deal would have gotten him at the time and Newcastle were unwilling to reach £ 38 million.
Newcastle finally signed Dan Burn for £ 13 million.
