As a final witness, Heard returned to the rostrum for the second time on Thursday, where he was asked about the witnesses who testified as part of Depp’s case and contradicted his version of events.
Heard said he was not surprised by the number of people who agreed to testify on his behalf.
“I know how many people will come out and say whatever is for him. That’s his power,” Heard said. “That’s why I wrote the opinion piece. I was talking about this phenomenon. How many people will support him and fall to his power. He is a very powerful man and people love to win the favor of powerful men.” .
Depp is suing Heard for $ 50 million, alleging that a 2018 Washington Post opinion piece he wrote in which he called “a public figure representing domestic abuse” defamed the actor and he lost his job. Heard has sued for $ 100 million in defamation.
“I’m harassed, humiliated, threatened every day. Even just entering this room, sitting here in front of the world, having the worst parts of my life, the things I’ve experienced used to humiliate me,” Heard said. “People want to kill me and they tell me every day. People want to put my baby in the microwave and they tell me.”
The jurors were left with Heard’s last words, about the impact that the allegations that his allegations of abuse were a deception have left in his life.
“Johnny promised me it would ruin me. That it would ruin my career, that it would take my life. Death was the only way out,” Heard said. “And if he came out, that’s what he would do to me. He would make me think about him every day. He promised me global humiliation. You saw those texts.”
Depp’s lawyers rested their rebuttal case Thursday morning, and ended up with an expert hand surgeon witness.
Heartd’s legal team rested shortly after noon.
The final arguments in the case were expected on Friday and the jury is expected to begin deliberating on Friday afternoon.
