Edinson Cavani opens on Manchester United lamenting before the transfer

Cavani signed for United from Paris Saint-Germain in October 2020 and made a big impact in his first term at Old Trafford, scoring 17 goals in all competitions.

A number of injuries have limited Cavani to two goals in 20 games this season with crowds in the stadiums following restrictions introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I wanted to contribute more this season,” said Cavani, whose contract expires in June, in an interview on the club’s website.

“One of the things that has left me with a slightly bitter taste is that when we had a very nice and pretty decent season (2020-2021), we couldn’t have the fans with us.

“Where I would have been able to score the kind of goals I scored last season, and then celebrate them a little more with the fans, the kind of things that are great to do for a striker or a striker.”

United finished the season in sixth place with 58 points, their lowest figure in the Premier League era, and will play in the Europa League second tier competition next season.

“Honestly, I have nothing but words of gratitude for Manchester United fans and supporters,” Cavani added.

“I think they have recognized a lot of all the hard work that I have always tried to do in the best way possible, giving my best for this team.

“I will leave here with a happy memory of that affection they showed me and always showed.”
