Jarrod Bowen and Justin James have received their first calls to England, but there is no room for Leicester striker James Maddison.

Fikayo Tomori has also received a call-up from Gareth Southgate for the upcoming League of Nations matches against Hungary, Germany and Italy.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is a surprise omission from the 27-man team, as is Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings. Southgate confirmed Tuesday that Henderson’s failure is to give the 31-year-old a much-needed break after a hectic campaign.

He said: “The decision around Jordan Henderson, who has played more than 60 games this season, is going to a Champions League final and is 32 years old. I don’t need to know more about him.”

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been left out of a hectic campaign

Sportsmail reported on Monday night that Bowen was ready for his debut for the English national team and his inclusion has now been confirmed.

Leicester defender Justin has long been admired by Southgate and has been included for the first time.

Tomori returns to the squad after winning the Serie A title with AC Milan, while Ben White and Marc Guehi are also included, although there are doubts about his fitness with the two nursing injuries.

There had been a clamor for Maddison to be included after a series of impressive displays, but he is not on the roster.

James Maddison was also left out of the squad despite his solid form of scoring for Leicester.

Southgate revealed on Tuesday that the exclusion of the Leicester star is due to the strength of the competition in England’s attacking midfield, with Mason Mount and Phil Foden as favorites.

About Maddison he said: ‘The season has ended very well; he is obviously scoring goals. We just feel that we are very happy with the players who have been with us in this area of the field of play, and he is competing with Mount and Foden in the areas of the field where he is at his best.

‘They’re a couple of positions where there’s a lot of strength in depth. There will always be a debate about a player you don’t choose, but to do that you have to leave out someone who is equal or even more deserving. “
