The rules do not apply to all types of travel.
Canada will relax some of its restrictions on coronavirus vaccination for travelers this June, but the new rules will not apply to everyone entering the country, nor to all types of travel in the country.
Effective June 20, the Canadian government will “suspend” COVID-19 vaccine warrants for outgoing domestic and international travelers and federally regulated workers.
The decision was based on current epidemiological trends as well as economic considerations for troubled industries, ministers said on Tuesday (June 14th).
At a news conference, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said Canadians would no longer need to be “vaccinated to board a plane or train in Canada”, but stressed that the same rule would not apply to cruises. .
And while unvaccinated Canadians traveling by plane or train won’t have to worry about being vaccinated at home, they won’t enjoy the same ease of travel as their vaccinated counterparts.
Masks and other public health protection measures will remain in place and apply to airplanes, trains and ships.
Canadian Vaccine Mandate: National versus International Travel
From June 20, shortly after midnight, Canadians will be able to enjoy travel across Canada, regardless of their immunization status. In addition, passengers embarking on international flights will no longer have to show proof of vaccination.
But the rules have not changed for returning travelers who are only partially vaccinated (one dose of vaccine) or unvaccinated.
Canadian citizens registered under the Law of India and permanent residents can enter the country, regardless of the state of the vaccine. In most cases, however, they will have to be quarantined after international travel. They must also continue to provide proof of an accepted type of COVID-19 test result prior to entry.
Health Canada goes on to point out that these people are more likely to become infected and have more serial results than people who are fully vaccinated.
The vaccination requirement has not changed for foreigners.
Do I still need to get vaccinated to go cruising?
Alghabra said the federal announcement will not apply to cruise ships. All crew and passengers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to board a cruise ship. And while children under the age of 12 may be allowed to board without showing proof of vaccination, some cruise companies may require children 5 years of age or older to be vaccinated.
Passengers must also take a molecular test of COVID-19 within 72 hours before embarking on a cruise or take an antigen test within one day of scheduled departure.
Passengers and crew must also wear masks when boarding the ship.
The ArriveCAN application is still in place
You may not need to be vaccinated to travel to the country, but Canada is not removing the ArriveCAN application (mobile application or free website). You must enter your personal information, vaccination data, travel documents and other relevant information on the platform.
Failure to submit your travel information and vaccination test using ArriveCAN could result in a $ 5,000 fine.
Beware of fraudulent third-party websites and applications that impersonate ArriveCAN and charge you. If you suspect that a website is posing as ArriveCAN, please report it to the Anti-Fraud Center of Canada.
Note: There is an updated version of the app that was released on May 15th. If you haven’t clicked Update or downloaded the latest version, you may be asked to submit specific information that is no longer needed.
