West Midlands Fire Service crews are at the scene of a large fire at a recycling center in Nechells, Birmingham, where thousands of tonnes of cardboard and paper have gone up in smoke.
More than 20 bombers and 110 firefighters are present at the scene at the Smurfit Kappa facility, where the fire service said the crews are working “extremely”. Residents are being asked to keep their windows and doors closed while firefighters work to put out the blaze.
A47 Heartlands Parkway is closed in both directions due to fire. The closure affects a stretch of road from Aston Church Road to the Saltley Viaduct junction B4114.
A fire service statement said: “At 7:40 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, we were called for an incident in Mount Street, Nechells, Birmingham. warehouse.
“We currently have more than 20 fire engines present, including two hydraulic overhead platforms, several fire engines, a high-volume water pumping unit and one of our drones. West Midlands station crews are working hard. hard to deal with fire.using main jets.
“We are working closely with fellow police and ambulances, the Environment Agency, Severn Trent Water and site staff to bring the incident to a safe conclusion. There are no reports of any casualties. he expects the teams to attend “all night long.”
