After nearly two years on the market, Meta is officially raising the price of its Quest 2 VR headset by $100.

Starting August 1st, the 128GB storage configuration for the Meta Quest 2 will cost $399.99 (was $299), while the 256GB model will now retail for $499.99 dollars Meta also confirmed that from August 1 to December 31, those who purchase a Quest 2 will receive a free digital copy of Beat Saber.

For now, the Meta Quest 2 is still available at its current price at numerous retailers (see Amazon / Best Buy).

Meta cites inflation as one of the reasons for the increase in writing prices.”[T]Manufacturing and shipping costs for our products have increased,” Meta said in a recent blog post. “By adjusting the price of Quest 2, we can continue to increase our investment in innovative research and development of new reality-enhancing products virtual the industry to new heights”.

Meta also showed off its “ambitious VR hardware roadmap,” once again mentioning that it plans to release Project Cambria later this year and noting that the company plans to release “new generations of Meta Quest” in the future

However, Meta noted that despite the $100 price increase, the Quest 2 “remains the most affordable VR headset” on the market. Additionally, we’re announcing highly anticipated titles coming to Quest 2, including Ghostbusters VR, Among Us VR, and NFL Pro Era. It’s important to mention, however, that these titles will also be coming to other VR headsets, such as the long-awaited PSVR2.

Although the Meta has the advantage of being a VR gaming headset that doesn’t require a gaming PC or console to run, and has some exclusive games on its platform, most notably Resident Evil 4 VR.

Next month, Meta will also begin rolling out a new account system that will finally stop requiring Quest 2 owners to use a Facebook account to use the headset.
