The cost of filling up the gas station hit a record high at Ottawa stations this weekend.
Gasoline prices rose two cents on Friday to 212.9 cents a liter and on Saturday rose another three cents to 215.9 cents a liter at many stations in the city.
“I don’t think it ends here,” Canadian for Affordable Energy President Dan McTeague told Ottawa at Work at Newstalk 580 CFRA. “Inflation figures in the United States are quite worrying (and) this could cause some panic in the energy markets, but that will only delay the inevitable.”
McTeague says the weak Canadian dollar is partly responsible for rising gas prices. There is also a tight global supply that has been exacerbated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The record for the highest gas price in Ottawa was 214.9 cents, set last weekend.
According to ottawagasprices.com, the price of gas was $ 1.25 a liter in Ottawa a year ago.
