Journalist and presenter Geoff Keighley urged viewers to “manage your expectations” ahead of this week’s live broadcast of Summer Game Fest, which he said will focus “primarily” on the games already announced.
Speaking during an audio session on Twitter Spaces this weekend (transcribed by VGC), Keighley said he was “very excited” about the content that will appear on the show, which he said will include “massive games” alongside titles. independent and new teams showing their projects for the first time.
Keighley said the show would include exclusive games for both Xbox and Nintendo Switch, but said Microsoft would probably keep its biggest hits for its own presentation and it was unclear if Nintendo itself was involved in SGF ( “We’d love for them to participate). if and when they’re ready”).
He also urged viewers to monitor their expectations regarding any “megaton clashes” they might be expecting, and labeled some of the rumors he had seen online as “crazy.”
Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards
“This is a very exciting weekend for me because I can finally see things we’ve been talking about with people for months,” Keighley told listeners on Twitter.
“Obviously, we’ve been announcing a lot of things since I last spoke to you about the world premieres and the announcements that will be made on the show.
“We’ve talked about the Calisto Protocol. This will be there. We’ll have the first game show you’ve probably seen in the trailer … We’re happy to show you.
He added: “We will have the first level of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 gameplay: this game looks really amazing, and we are happy to show it to you on Thursday as well.
“We’ll have a revelation and some news about Gotham Knights as well as some new footage from this game. Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course will be really out on June 30th, just over three weeks away, and we’ll have some new footage and an MDHR studio that he also joins us in this.
“Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will be passing by. If you played at the Fortnite Collision event like me yesterday, you saw The Foundation in there, which was a lot of fun, so we’ll be looking forward to hearing from you.
“We’ll have a lot more to share this week. Some other things we’ll do in the next few days and then there will be a lot of things we’ll keep until the show.”
Keighley said he expected the show to last “about an hour and a half or two hours,” but due to its live setup and many guest appearances, he said he wasn’t entirely sure. .
“What I would say is that many of the matches we will show will be you [already] announced … the games will show you new content, like some of the ones I mentioned, “he said.
“We have a couple of new game announcements on the show and we expect some surprises if all goes well. But it’s definitely a show that focuses primarily on the things that are announced.”
He added: “So we’re doing good things for you, but you’re definitely managing your expectations for the megaton shocks you’re expecting. This isn’t The Game Awards. We have a lot of good things to show you, but the buyer is going beware of some of the crazy rumors I’m seeing around here in terms of things people expect to be announced. “
The host used last year’s Elden Ring trailer as an example of how the new game revelations already announced could still be as exciting as the all-new game announcements.
“This was an advertised game that only showed new images, and sometimes people treated it like the game’s announcement, but it was actually announced a few years earlier.”
He added: “I think it will be a fun month of content for the games to come out. And there are a lot of games that have been announced in which we haven’t seen anything and that will be a big part.
“What I’m saying is that the Game Awards are obviously in December, but before that we have a lot of great game publisher events coming up next week. The Xbox and Bethesda Showcase is on Sunday … and there will be more to announce in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. “
