Girrawheen crash: Police hunt man who left female passenger to die in horror motorbike crash

A female passenger has died in a horrific motorbike accident, with the rider fleeing the scene and abandoning her by the side of the road, prompting a police chase.

A police hunt is underway for the male rider of a white Yamaha R1 motorcycle which crashed along Beach Road in Girrawheen at around 4pm.

Major crash officers say the motorcycle was traveling eastbound when the male rider lost control of the bike before crashing near the intersection of Redcliffe Avenue.

The impact of the crash caused the rider and his passenger to be thrown from the bike.

The woman, believed to be 31, suffered catastrophic injuries and could not be saved. He died at the scene.

Police say the motorcyclist fled the area on foot, leaving behind his seriously injured passenger.

A search is now underway for the driver, who has not yet been identified by police.

Photographs show that the motorcycle was completely totaled in the crash and was lying on its side in a grassy area.

He left behind a path of destruction, with the wreckage of the bike strewn all over the road and two helmets sitting yards apart.

The main accident officers have appealed for witnesses to the accident to come forward.
