The iOS 16 header update is the ability to make custom lock screens. From widgets, fonts, photos, new wallpapers, and more, see how you can create a custom iOS 16 lock screen on your iPhone.

iOS 16 has arrived with the launch of the first beta for developers just after the presentation of Apple at the WWDC. The upcoming major software release for iPhone includes a number of useful features for messaging, notifications, photos, mail, Safari, and more.

However, what will probably get the most attention is the new custom lock screen feature of iOS 16. It’s the most personalization support we’ve seen from Apple with iPhone, based on all the work that goes into it. to do with iOS 14 when it released widgets and some of its good Apple Watch faces.

IOS 16 lock screen: how to customize iPhone

  1. After installing iOS 16, tap and hold the lock screen
  2. If you’re using an old wallpaper, you’ll need to create a new one to make a custom lock screen
  3. Tap the blue + icon at the bottom right
  4. Choose a wallpaper from the main categories, or scroll down to see all the options
  5. Tap the + icon below the time to select widgets
    • Recommended widgets are at the top, more options by category below
  6. Tap the time to customize the font and color
  7. Tap the date to add a widget to the top
    • Options include Calendar, Clock, Fitness, Reminders, Stock and Time

Here’s a quick look at the process:

If you tap the “Customize” button on an old wallpaper, you’ll be prompted to “Add new” to continue.

Photos can look very sharp with the new lock screen, and you can even set it to rotate your images with the “Photo Shuffle” wallpaper.

You can add up to 4 small, 2 small, and 1 medium widgets, or 2 medium widgets to the bottom of the lock screen.

The fastest way to add widgets is by tapping them, but you can drag and drop them if you want to be more location-specific.

Tap the time to customize the font and color. Swipe from right to left to reveal more color options, as well as the full color palette for a fully customized hue.

You can also add 1 widget to the top day / date section, tap to make a selection.

Tap the three-dot icon at the bottom right to activate perspective zoom, and tap Done in the upper right corner when you’re done.

Back on the lock screen customization home page, you can also tap Focus at the bottom to link a specific one to that specific lock screen.

How do lock screen widgets work?

Once you’ve placed widgets on the lock screen, you’ll receive live data every time you take a look. However, like the home screen widgets, they are not directly interactive, so when you tap them you’ll be directed to the appropriate app (Calendar, Time, Reminders, etc.).

How many iOS 16 lock screens can you do?

At any time, you can tap Customize to edit a lock screen, or tap the blue + icon to create a new one.

It’s not clear how many lock screens you can make, but so far I’ve created 21 😅.

How to change lock screens

Similar to the faces on the Apple Watch, once you have multiple lock screens, it’s easy to switch between them by holding down the lock screen and swiping to select a different one.

How to clear custom lock screens

To remove custom lock screens, press one and choose “Delete Wallpaper” at the bottom.

Lock screens and battery life?

The new weather and astronomy wallpapers in iOS 16 are really impressive, but keep in mind that they’ll ask you for access to the location (which can be updated as often as every 15 minutes) which can affect your battery life. iPhone.
