LG’s mobile division may be dead, but it still has something zombie: it promised to upgrade some of its latest devices to Android 12 this year, and that promise is being fulfilled very slowly. After the Velvet and V60 ThinQ, today the LG V50 ThinQ 5G has started receiving the update to Android 12. This update was supposed to take place at the end of June, but apparently it was delayed a bit.
Sure, Android 13 could be just around the corner right now, but it’s still commendable to see a company that abandoned mobile gaming without forgetting its customers from days gone by. The V50 ThinQ 5G was launched in April 2019 and the Android 12 update is currently being implemented on Verizon models in the US. Presumably, the other American variations of the phone are next in line to receive the treats.
The change log is very sparse, but you should expect to receive all the nice new features that Google added to Android 12 last year, including privacy indicators for your microphone and camera, location sharing controls, and far more. However, don’t expect any changes to the user interface – integrating these would have been too much work apparently, so the software will look like it did before the upgrade.
Also, don’t expect any additional Android updates for the ThinQ V50, this is the end of the line. And with the phone being more than three years old, maybe it’s time to change it to something newer?
