Irvine: “The job is only half done”
Socceroo midfielder Jackson Irvine opened the scoring with a well-scored goal, scoring a cross from Martin Boyle. He was a rare striker for the St Pauli man, but his celebrations will be kept to a minimum with Peru still preventing Australia and the World Cup.

The Australian striker, Martin Boyle, had his Australian-born father in the stands watching him play for Australia for the first time at the stadium. “I see a tear in his eyes, it means everything.”
Boyle was full of praise for the winner of the match, Ajdin Hrustic, who sealed the victory with a perverse volley that kept alive Australia’s hopes of a fifth consecutive World Cup qualification.

Khalied Eisa made a brilliant save against Jamie Maclaren. Another cunning buildup erodes the UAE’s defense, paving the way for Maclaren to shoot from an acute angle inside the box. The home keeper was stunned 27 minutes into the match when he misjudged the free kick by Eisa and dived in the wrong direction.

No sign of Abdulrahman
There are only 15 minutes left in regulation time and we have not yet seen the main creator of the United Arab Emirates game, Omar Abdulrahman. The blurry-haired offensive midfielder is one of the most gifted players in Asia and was a man the Socceroos would have targeted as the main threat. However, he is still on the bench and is not yet used by coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena.
