Local news Launch of St. John’s Pride Week in the Confederation building

Today a pride flag was raised in the Confederation building to mark the start of St. John’s Pride Week and to celebrate the diversity of the 2SLGBTQQIA + community in Newfoundland and Labrador.

A group of children from the nursery attended the event. Minister for Women and Gender Equality Pam Parsons says it is important for children to learn to be inclusive.

He says children are the future, so it is crucial that they learn about inclusion and equality from an early age.

Ryan Gosse, co-chair of St. John’s Pride, says this week is about bringing people together after some difficult years for the province, St. John’s Board. John’s Pride and the LGBTQ + community.

He says throughout the week there are a number of events for all ages scheduled, including the St. John’s Pride Parade at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Goose says this year’s parade will be bigger than ever, with more than 150 groups participating. He is encouraging everyone to go out and celebrate Pride Week.
