More than 30 locations will offer a new pilot preschool program for the next school year.
The early learning program will offer about 600 new regulated child care spaces to communities across the province.
The announcement was made this morning at Elizabeth Park Elementary, one of the participating schools.
The program will be run by non-profit organizations and registration dates will be announced once the opening dates at each location have ended. The deadline for groups to submit their work is June 6.
The first locations are expected to open this fall or in the winter of 2023 and will be available to any child who plans to start daycare in September 2023.
Preschool places will be available for any child in this age group with registration details to be provided in the coming weeks.
Anyone interested in working on the preschool program is encouraged to email PreK@gov.nl.ca to join the contact list for the application process. Preference will be given to hiring early childhood education educators who have a Level III or higher Child Care Services Certification (CCS), including those who left the sector while holding this certification.
