NEW YORK (WABC) – Twice a year, the sunset aligns with the streets of Manhattan to provide one of the most stunning sunset photos you can capture in New York City.
Manhattanhenge spends about the same two days in May and then again two days in July each year.
If you didn’t catch Manhattanhenge on Sunday night, you can catch it on Monday, May 30, full sun at 8:12 p.m.
Then, in July, it happens again: Monday, July 11, full sun at 20:20 Tuesday, July 12, half sun at 20:21
If you want to take a picture worthy of the occasion, follow these AccuWeather tips:
- Plan ahead: Be sure to check the weather and mark your site well in advance of the sunset. As with any major event in New York City, Manhattanhenge attracts crowds.
- Choose the correct street: Find a street with an unobstructed view of the horizon. NYC Parks has outlined the best streets to witness the moment. They are: 57th Street42nd Street34th Street23rd Street14th Street Tudor City Overpass, ManhattanHunter’s Point South Park in Long Island City, Queens
- Bring the right equipment and check your settings: If you really want the perfect photo, bring a quality tripod and camera. Make sure the settings are ready for low light conditions. Choose a high aperture setting such as F / 16 and make sure your ISO is as low as possible for your camera.
- Experiment with different topics: Try choosing something in the foreground to focus on, such as someone watching the sunset or a fountain. This creates a silhouette for a more attractive shot.
